AMBITIONS

Maintaining the sovereignty of our Tribe is of the utmost importance to me. I am proud to say that I was a part of the Tribal Council that stood firm alongside our Gaming Commission in negotiations with the State of California on our gaming compact. Other tribes settled for less, but we did not. That took courage on our part, and I will continue to fight for our shared values of community and culture. I also participated in the tribal strategic planning sessions and assure you that your priorities will be mine, as they have been for the past four years.

I will continue to make educational opportunities a priority for our young people, honor sacred commitments to our elders, and ensure that we are taking care of those who are suffering from addiction and mental health issues.

Nüümü & Healthcare

I will continue to lobby for a rehab treatment center that will provide culturally sensitive treatment options for our people in a safe environment. I will also push for better quality healthcare for all of our tribal members. I will hold the Toiyabe Indian Health Center accountable for complying with our tribal laws and regulations, even if it means eventually taking control of Toiyabe  ourselves.

I will also work to secure funding to bring tribal record-keeping into the 21st century by digitally storing records so they are easily accessible.  I will address the ongoing staffing issues with a focus on attracting and retaining qualified personnel. To do this, housing needs to be addressed. I will also find ways for the Tribe to do a better job of showing that all our employees are valued. It is critical that the Tribe provide the training and professional development needed for our staff to thrive and grow in their careers.

Community & Environment

I will work to ensure that we obtain the necessary resources to enhance our infrastructure and ensure that we can provide public works services in a timely manner.

I firmly believe that all tribal members deserve to live in a clean and safe environment. As such, I will continue to confront the drug issues in our community and to address the derelict and illegal trailer sites.

Most importantly, I will continue to seek opportunities to secure land for housing and economic projects so our people do not have to move off the reservation because they have no place to stay and will work with the Owens Valley Indian Water Commission to protect our valuable water resources.

"...a brighter and more sustainable future."

While there are many challenges facing the Tribe, there are also many opportunities at this time to foster economic innovation and energy independence. This is an exciting time to enable us to work towards a brighter and more sustainable future.

A “Vote for Joyce” will allow me to guide you on that path. Thank you and I hope to continue working for you while committing to always respect the decisions of the general council.
